The Canterbury Scholars Program

The Canterbury Scholars Program is designed to bring together seminarians and newly ordained clergy for building and strengthening relationships across our great Anglican Communion.  We are exploring our diversity, celebrating what unifies us, and spending time together in study, worship and prayer, and at our daily meals. The scholars in this year's program are thirty-five in number (8 of whom are women), hailing from 20 different countries.

As residents of the Lodge, we are living inside the Cathedral precincts and participating fully in the unique life of the Cathedral Community.  We start each morning with matins at 7:30, eucharist at 8, followed by breakfast at 8:30, and Bible study at 9:15.  After a mid-morning break, we have a late morning teaching session and lunch at 1.  Afternoons vary, with either an afternoon teaching session or personal time.  We gather together in the Cathedral Quire for evensong at 5:30 and share dinner together at 7, and some nights we meet in the media room to watch a film after dinner.

So we're spending a lot of time together, but we are also free to break from the group anytime we need personal quite time.  Living with such a diverse group of people can be tiring, but we're all doing well at mixing and mingling, being intentional about not solely gravitating to those from our same country.

Since this program lasts for two weeks, I think we're going to have plenty of time to get past general niceties and engage in meaningful discussion on a variety topics....stay tuned!
